A tragic early-morning crash on Interstate 75 South in Marietta, Georgia, claimed the life of 47-year-old Gordon Fields on Friday, leaving family, friends, and the local community in mourning. The deadly collision occurred just before 1 a.m. near North Marietta Parkway, amid heavy overnight traffic and lingering congestion from an earlier accident that had shut down all southbound lanes. According to authorities, traffic was stopped on the bridge while emergency crews worked to clear the previous wreck. A tractor-trailer driven by 29-year-old Mayki Marcelin of Davenport, Florida, remained stopped in the lane even after traffic began moving. Another tractor-trailer, operated by 35-year-old Daniel Granados of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, approached the stopped truck and attempted to swerve to avoid a direct collision, grazing the left side of Marcelin’s vehicle in the process. Moments later, Fields was driving a white Volkswagen and collided with the rear of the stationary tractor-trailer. The impact was severe, and emergency responders pronounced Fields dead at the scene. Both truck drivers remained on site and are cooperating fully with investigators. No other serious injuries were immediately reported. The crash caused significant overnight traffic disruptions on one of metro Atlanta’s busiest highway corridors. Investigators continue to examine the scene to determine contributing factors, including speed, visibility, driver attention, or roadway conditions. No charges have been filed as the investigation remains ongoing. Gordon Fields is being remembered by his loved ones and the Marietta community, who are left grieving the loss of a life cut tragically short on a roadway where caution and patience are always critical.
