West Palm Beach, Florida — Authorities are investigating a fatal collision involving a Brightline passenger train and a vehicle that left two people dead on Sunday afternoon.

According to early reports, the crash occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. near a railway crossing in West Palm Beach when a vehicle entered the tracks and was struck by an oncoming Brightline train. The impact proved fatal for both occupants of the vehicle, who were pronounced dead at the scene despite rapid response from emergency services.

Law enforcement officers, fire rescue teams, and rail safety investigators secured the area shortly after the incident. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.

Brightline confirmed that no passengers or crew aboard the train were injured, though service disruptions and delays were reported as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and investigators began their examination.

Officials are reviewing multiple aspects of the crossing, including signal operation, gate functionality, visibility conditions, and vehicle movement prior to the impact. Investigators are also expected to analyze surveillance footage, train data systems, and witness statements as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Rail service in the area was temporarily suspended during the investigation, causing delays across parts of Brightline’s South Florida network.

Authorities have reiterated warnings about the dangers of railway crossings, stressing that trains cannot stop quickly and that drivers must always obey crossing signals and barriers.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates are expected as officials complete their initial findings and release additional details.
