The Cincinnati community is mourning the tragic loss of Robert Lee Rothwell III, a 22-year-old man who died following a violent shooting along Interstate 71 on Thursday afternoon, May 21, 2026.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred near Stewart Road in the Silverton area while Rothwell was traveling northbound in a vehicle with two other individuals. Authorities say gunfire was exchanged from another vehicle during the incident, and Rothwell was struck by at least one bullet.

As chaos unfolded on the interstate, the vehicle carrying Rothwell crashed into a guardrail. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported him to UC Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later died from his injuries.
